Symbolism and Meaning of Shiva
The dance of Shiva is the dance of life and death, the continual creation and destruction of the universe. The dance takes place in the Chidambaram, the "center of the universe," in the human heart. Shiva, in at least one incarnation, that of Ardhanarisvara, is androgynous, both female and male.
