Symbolism of the Labyrinth:
Meaning literally, "House of the Double Axe," from labrys, the labyrinth was not a maze but a pathway representing a cyclic journey of death and rebirth into and emerging from the Underworld or the earth-womb. It is the journey of all life moving through the various material forms but it is also the journey of the soul, again and again descending into the womb of the Great Mother until the next time of emergence.
